Annual Toy Run
The Annual Toy Ride is a long-standing community tradition dedicated to bringing joy to children of farmworker and rural low-income families in Miami-Dade. Founded in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew by Ed Carrera, known as “Boss Hog,” the ride has continued each December, traveling to Homestead to deliver toys, shoes, and essential items to families in need.
What began as a small group of volunteers has grown into one of the most cherished holiday rides within the local biker community, with some years drawing over 200 riders. More than an event, it is a movement rooted in compassion, generosity, and community.

Alligator Ron Bergeron is a renowned Florida conservationist, developer, and former Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission member, known for his love of the Everglades. His “house” includes a 4,700 acres private ranch called Green Glades West, a natural habitat bordering Big Cypress National Preserve, used for wildlife conservation and charity fundraising events.

Elevate 2025: Back to the Future
Kids In Distress (KID) and Family Central are hosting this charity event at the Fort Lauderdale War Memorial. It is described as a night of “purpose, philanthropy, and impact” with an 80s theme, featuring “Back to the Future” elements to raise funds to support children and families. The gala benefits Kids In Distress and Family Central, two organizations dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect. Proceeds specifically support early childhood education programs and services for over 20,000 children annually.
The event is guided by the Elevate Committee, which serves as the “spark” and “guiding force” behind the vision and heart of the gala.
